When the plant becomes a tree, the next level is a small pond, and the next is a jungle. In Garden Mode, the player starts at the nursery and they grow the edible plant they choose to become. Garden Mode is also similar to Story Mode. When the player reaches a new level, the player can move to the next one. In Swing Mode, the player swings from vine to vine and reach the different activities. After completing the activity and reaching a new level, the player can move on to the next one. At the beginning of the game, the player can only move from one activity to the next. There is a map in the park that displays all the different activities. Along the way, the player encounters various animals, people and objects. In Story Mode, players start as a baby and must explore the park. The player can choose the type of scratch cards they make in Scratch Mode. In the Scratch Mode, the player must make a scratch card to unlock bonus items. In the Multiplayer Mode, two players can play together.
In the Beat Mode, the player can make music using the fruit and vegetables they have collected. In Time Mode the player must collect objects to make them appear in front of the fruit and vegetable they belong to. In Garden Mode the player starts out in the nursery and must grow an edible plant to become a tree, the next level is a small pond, the next is a jungle, the next is a lake, the next is a beach and the final level is the island from the first Viva Piñata. In Swing Mode the player must swing from vines to reach different levels in the park. In the Story Mode the player starts out as a baby and must grow up and explore the park. The game features six different modes of play.
